Limp Bizkit's Wes Borland joins the Aston family

Best known as the face-painted guitar hero of rap/nu-metal giants Limp Bizkit, Wes Borland is also a busy solo artist and producer, and founder of two other band projects, Big Dumb Face and Black Light Burns. Described by Kerrang as ‘the most enigmatic maverick in metal’, he won Metal Hammer’s prestigious Riff Lord award in 2018.

Wes uses Aston Origin and Spirit mics both on stage, to capture his massive guitar sound, and in the studio, for a range of applications including acoustic guitars, drum overheads and in stereo on the tiny piano he uses on much of his solo work.

He’s a particular fan of using the Origins through his Neotek console: “I don’t really have to do to much EQ to them. What I get just ‘is’.” He told us. His use of an Origin on his stage JC120 amp was endorsed by Foo Fighters and Bizkit FOH engineer Brian Worthing, who told him “That amp sounds like THAT amp now through the PA!”

Wes says if he hadn’t gone into music he’d have followed his other great passion, visual art. He is an accomplished painter – he does the artwork for all his three main bands and he contributed illustrations to the recent John Travolta film ‘The Fanatic’ which was directed by fellow Bizkit, frontman Fred Durst.
