Help get this song to number one!
Pupils at St. Colman’s College in Fermoy, County Cork, have recorded a version of Bill Withers’ Lean On Me to raise money for charities, including Our Lady's Children's Hospital in Crumlin, Dublin, where one of their fellow pupils is being treated for cancer.
The song, produced by Mark Cahill, immediately topped the Irish iTunes charts and now the pupils are hoping downloads and CD sales can help achieve success in the Christmas charts.
Performers on the track, all 15 – 16 year olds, include Tom Cahill who was himself diagnosed with cancer at the age of two and underwent chemotherapy and surgery. Hi mother, quoted in Sky News, said that despite all he has been through “he still wakes up every morning with a song and a smile".
Dara O'Murchu, who sang lead vocals on the Lean On Me cover, said he was nervous at being chosen to sing the opening lines of the song:
He told Sky: "It's tough when a classmate is going through such a difficult time and sometimes it hard to know what's the right thing to do.
"The words of the song are a way for us to show our support. The song shows how no matter what's going in your life there is always someone to lean on!"
