From tea-maker to hit-maker. Grammy-nominee Bryan Wilson and his Aston Spirit.
Mixer, producer, songwriter, and recording engineer Bryan Wilson has worked with a galaxy of award-winning artists including Stormzy, Florence and the Machine, Arctic Monkeys and many more. He was nominated for a Grammy for his mixing of Sofi Tukker’s dance hit ‘Drinkee’.
An engineering and live sound graduate of Paul McCartney’s Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts, Bryan started put making tea and running errands for Miloco Studios in London before landing his first assistant engineering job. From there he has worked his way to the very top of the industry.
Bryan uses minimal equipment in his Pro Tools-based set up, and an Aston Spirit condenser mic is a central fixture. He told us the Spirit has helped mean he has to spend less time working in the big London studios:
“I can confidently place the Spirit in front of any type of vocalist. Whether male or female, that will deliver solid results without having to do too much work in post-production.”
He also uses the Aston Halo and Swifshield to provide a consistently pristine sound wherever he is recording:
“The Halo really helps. When using it, I just don’t have to worry about whether it’s going to sound good.”
