Birmingham turns up to 11 with Aston mics

It was a raucous two days at The Guitar Show, Birmingham, this weekend, with Aston Microphones on main stage duty where a galaxy of guitar greats, including Suede’s Bernard Butler and Bon Jovi’s Phil X, entertained the crowds.

All the stage amps and cabs were mic’ed with Aston Origins or Stealths, while the award-winning Stealth also showed off its live’n’loud credentials – and versatility - as the main choice for stage vocal mic.

Bernard Butler was interviewed on stage by Andy Price (guitar.com) on his work, influences and approach both as a player and a producer – he has just produced a new album ‘Old Wow’ by folk artist Sam Lee – and he also demonstrated why he’s credited as one of the UK’s most influential players, using his Gibson semi and stereo Lazy amps with a pair of Origins close at hand.

There were performances from bluesters Aynsley Lister and Laurence Jones, a set from Manchester’s female answer to Prince, JJ Rosa, and an appearance from classical and fingerstyle guitarist Billy Watman who shot to fame as a ‘Guitar Star’ finalist in 2016, aged just 14.

Aston artist and Skindred guitarist Mikey Demus starred on the Saturday, while headliner on Sunday was Bon jovi’s Phil X, whose mega guitar tone was courtesy of a Gibson SG with Marshall and Fender amps, again mic’ed with a pair of Aston Origins.

“This was arguably the show’s strongest line-up in recent years” event organiser Jason Hunt told us “..so it was important to get the main stage sound as good as we could get it. The Aston mics delivered – they sounded awesome.”
