FOH master Chris Fullard with his Aston Starlights at historic NYC Ulver gig
Norwegian experimental rockers Ulver have played their first ever USA gig in their 25 year history at New York’s Irvin Plaza, with their long time FOH engineer and Aston artist Chris Fullard at the mixing desk and his trusty stereo Aston Starlights stationed over the drum kit.
The cult band, who have evolved through a number of style manifestations from black metal through ambient noise to their current goth-flavoured rock, attracted fans spanning all their historic incarnations across a quarter of. century which has seen the band sell more than half a million albums.
“Starlights are my go-to mic for drum overheads for Ulver” said Chris, who says he favours the Vintage setting on the laser-guided SDC mics when using them over the kit.
Chris has been working his Aston-powered sonic magic recently with Canadian electronica artist Tim Hecker, and will be back behind the desk to continue another of his long-term relationships, with UK rock outfit Idles, who are about to embark on a heavyweight world tour beginning with dates in UK and Europe before crossing the Atlantic in May for a series of USA dates.
